Non-Alcohol and Pescetarian Month!

Happy New Years!!!

Every January my boyfriend and I give up drinking.  As you know, I'm a little bit of a health nut and by the 1st of the new year we both feel we need a detox.  Now don't get me wrong, we enjoy having a few cocktails here and there; on a Friday night, while out to dinner with friends or during our favorite football games (GO SKINS!).

It's not easy at first, especially after the holidays but we get through and feel completely refreshed by February 1st - just in time for the super bowl.  So what do we drink besides water, tea and coffee you ask? Just to name a few:

  • Pomegranate apple cider
  • Fresh juiced orange and grapefruit with seltzer
  • Blackberries, raspberries and strawberries added to seltzer or ginger ale.

Here's the kicker. . . In addition to not drinking this month we're also giving up meat - not Vegetarian but Pescetarian, also known as Fishatarian.  Like Vegetarians, we'll be giving up land animals while continuing to include vegetables, fruit, nuts, grains, and beans but unlike Vegetarian's we will be consuming fish, dairy and eggs.

Yesterday marked Day 1, and I'll be blogging about the next 30.  I want to share everything from our recipes,  how what we're eating affects our mood and energy levels, any differences or fluctuation in weight, etc.

This is what we ate yesterday for breakfast:

Scrambled eggs with onions, mushrooms and spinach.
Cottage cheese and tomatoes
Radishes
Toast (For him)

I definitely went back and finished the small tomato and a few more radishes.

Lunch:

Tuna fish sandwich (for him)
Tuna fish lettuce wraps (for me)

I also made homemade salsa to go along with.

Dinner:

Red, yellow and orange peppers with onions
Refried beans
Rice

I cut up tons of peppers and onions, sauteed these in our skillet and put over rice and added a dollop of the beans.  It was delicious.

For dessert we had blackberries and a few pieces of chocolate.  In moderation right? Thankfully, there's no more holiday treats in the house.

Keep an eye out for Day #2.
